Q-and-A: Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy

There is nowhere Mike Gundy would rather be than Oklahoma State.

Gundy is home, a native of Midwest City, Okla., and a former star quarterback at Oklahoma State (1986-89) who went on to become the school's leading career passer en route to guiding the Cowboys to three 10-win seasons.

Now, Gundy's coaching career is mimicking the same success he enjoyed as a player.

Mike Gundy enjoyed a steller career as a player at Oklahoma State, and he's having similar success as the Cowboys' coach. He began his career as receivers coach at Oklahoma State (1990-95) before ascending to offensive coordinator. Gundy then took jobs on the staffs at Baylor (1996) and Maryland (1997-2000). Gundy returned to Oklahoma State in 2001 as offensive coordinator under Les Miles before being elevated to coach after Miles left for LSU following the 2004 campaign.

Gundy has built on the success Miles started, guiding Oklahoma State to a 47-29 mark entering this season, with five bowl bids in six seasons.

Oklahoma State has one of the best pass-catch combo in the country in senior quarterback Brandon Weeden and junior wide receiver Justin Blackmon. The duo has propelled the Cowboys on to the national scene and visions of a BCS appearance. Weeden has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 17 straight games and Blackmon has 140 catches over the last 16 games.

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy spent Saturday in studio at ESPN.  Gundy was on the campus of ESPN and spent the day jumping around sets breaking down college games.  Here are a few photos from his eventful day. 

Former Cowboys Shine in the NFL

Several former Oklahoma State Cowboys continue to shine in the NFL. Sunday was no exception as the Cowboy connections made their impact felt.

The Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions game was nearly an alumni event for Oklahoma State. Wide Receiver Dez Bryant, who was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated during his career at OSU, finished with two touchdowns and 37 yards on three catches. Kicker Dan Bailey was 3-for-3 with a 41-yarder for the Cowboys. Bailey finished the game with 12 points.

First-round pick Brandon Pettigrew had six receptions for 64 yards in the game for Detroit. Pettigrew, was the first tight end taken in the 2009 draft, played at OSU from 2005-08. The Lions pulled out a 34-30 victory.

Minnesota Viking Kevin Williams had two tackles today, including a tackle for loss. The Vikings lost to Kansas City, 22-17.

Running Back Kendall Hunter made his first career start for the San Francisco 49ers Sunday against Philadelphia. Hunter, who is in his rookie season, had nine carries for 38 yards including a long of 14 yards. He also had two catches for 62 yards with a 44-yarder.

St. Louis Ram Billy Bajema had two catches for 11 yards Sunday against the Washington Redskins. Bajema is in his seventh NFL season.

Defensively, Denver's Ryan McBean had three tackles including two solo. Antonio Smith with the Houston Texans had two tackles including a sack and tackle for loss.

Oklahoma State Prepares for Kansas

The Oklahoma State football program is in full preparation mode for the Kansas game on Oct. 8 at 2:30 p.m. The Cowboys, who were idle this weekend, hit the field for two hours Sunday inside Boone Pickens Stadium. OSU is 4-0 on the year and coming off a big 30-29 victory at No. 8 Texas A&M. The energy and excitement from the big win aided the Cowboys downtime this past weekend.

OSU will be ready to hit the field against the Jayhawks. KU enters the game with a 2-2 overall record and is on a two-game losing skid. The Jayhawks lost a 45-35 contest in Lawrence Saturday to Texas Tech. The Cowboys have won six of the last seven meetings with KU, including a 48-14 win in Lawrence last season.
