Mike Gundy Featured on ESPN.com
Oklahoma State hired Mike Gundy seven years ago at age 37, the equivalent of coaching adolescence. He had started at quarterback for the Cowboys for four seasons and been an assistant coach there for 10 of the 15 years after his graduation. He was as orange and black as Pistol Pete, and also green.
"I look back," Gundy said, "and never would have hired me, knowing what I know now."
The arc of Gundy's success at his alma mater has yet to bend toward earth. He has won as many or more games in each season than the previous one, from four wins in 2005 to 11 and counting as No. 3 Oklahoma State prepares to play No. 4 Stanford in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on Monday.

Weeden, Pratt go from minors to Fiesta Bowl teams
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Brandon Weeden and Jordan Pratt can only chuckle now about their baseball connection.
The Oklahoma State quarterback and Stanford wide receiver spent a sweltering summer together in 2005 with the Class-A Columbus Catfish, the Los Angeles Dodgers' former minor league affiliate in Georgia. After practice or before games, they'd often take a break from baseball and play out another sports fantasy.
"He'd bring out a football every once in a while and throw me routes," Pratt said. "We'd always talk about, 'If baseball doesn't work out, we'll go back and play football.' Everybody else is like, 'Yeah right, that'll never happen.' And the two of us were kind of like in the back of our minds thinking,
'Yeah? We're going to do this if baseball doesn't work out.'"
They might be the only the ones not surprised by this rare Fiesta Bowl reunion.
Weeden, Oklahoma State's 28-year-old starting quarterback nicknamed "Grandpa" by students, dropped baseball in 2007 for the gridiron. Pratt, a freshman walk-on wide receiver at Stanford some call "The Professor," is just beginning his college career at age 26 after eight years in the minors.

ESPN.com Season recap: Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State achieved a ton in 2011, but even the most optimistic will always wonder how much more it could have done. Only .0086 points in the BCS standings separated Oklahoma State from Alabama, the closest margin in the history of the BCS. A 44-10 blowout win over rival Oklahoma, the first Bedlam win since 2002, was enough to win the Big 12 title in convincing fashion, but not enough to convince voters that Oklahoma State deserved to play for the national title, instead of giving the Crimson Tide a rematch with LSU. The loss to Iowa State on Nov. 18 was too much to overcome.
For all the attention given to Dana Holgorsen's exit, it proved to be a non-story. Todd Monken stepped in and helped OSU score 49.3 points a game, nearly breaking Oklahoma's NCAA scoring record from back in 2008. Last season, the Cowboys scored just over 44 points a game. Joseph Randle stepped in perfectly for Kendall Hunter, and Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon were both outstanding, as expected.

Fiesta Bowl - History & Trophy
2012 Fiesta Bowl
The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Trophy was designed by Molina Fine Jewelers in 2002 for its unveiling at the 2003 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Championship Game, and has since become a primary addition to many Festival events.
The Fiesta Bowl trophies construction and significance is quite remarkable: The inlaid compass on the base floor signifies the path in life we choose to lead. The players at the base of the trophy depict those that support the team, while the players at the top depict those that guard the ball. The curtain above the players is inscribed with the ancient Greek word NIKE, the goddess of Victory. The lotus flower-designed dome identifies the purity of strength, power and heart of the victors. The perfection of the diamonds on the football speaks of the remarkable dedication of the winning team to its sport.

University of Phoenix Stadium Hosts Fiesta Bowl
With its retractable field and roof, University of Phoenix Stadium is unlike any other in North America. The exterior design of the stadium was provided by renowned architect Peter Eisenman, along with HOK Sport. The basic form of the design takes its cue from a barrel cactus and offers alternating vertical slots with smooth panels.
The stadium was constructed with a retractable roof containing two large panels that retract to uncover the entire playing field. It also features a roll-out field consisting of a 152,000 square-foot concrete stadium floor with an embedded utility grid. The natural grass field remains in a retractable, 12-million pound tray outside the stadium until game day for maximum sun exposure and nourishment. The tray takes approximately 45 minutes to move inside the stadium and rests in a tray atop tracks as it rolls out on a steel wheel set powered by small electric motors.
The stadium has permanent seating for 63,000, but expands to hold approximately 73,000 for events such as the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. A total of 88 luxury suites on two levels, club seating for 7,000 with access to private club lounge areas, lower bowl seating for 29,000 and upper deck seating for approximately 26,000 accommodate patrons. All seats are individual chairs with arm rests and cup holders.
