Mike Gundy Era - Bowl Appearances

Oklahoma State has reached new heights under head coach Mike Gundy. The Gundy Era has launched the program into the national spotlight. OSU has chiseled out an impressive list of accomplishments and perhaps the strongest foundation in the program's history.

  • Has led OSU to five consecutive bowl appearances for the first time in school history
  • Has coached three NFL first-round draft picks since 2008
  • Has coached winners of the Biletnikoff Award, Lou Groza Award and Ray Guy Award since 2008
  • Has coached eight first-team All-Americans since 2008
  • Oklahoma State is one of only four teams in the country from automatic-qualifying BCS conferences to win nine games or more in each of the last three regular seasons.
  • 2010 Big 12 Coach of the Year
  • 2010 finalist for the Eddie Robinson and Liberty Mutual National Coach of the Year awards
In addition to those, OSU continues to set new season ticket attendance numbers. This season marks an all-time record for season tickets and the number is still on the climb with the Cowboys ranked No. 5 nationally and 4-0. Boone Pickens Stadium has become one of the hardest places to play for an opponent. The atmosphere and fan base makes Oklahoma State a special place.

Mike Gundy named National Coach of the Week

STILLWATER, Okla. --- The Oklahoma State football program solidified its spot in the national rankings this past weekend with a win over No. 8 Texas A&M, 30-29. The weekly honors continue to pour in for the Cowboys. Senior quarterback Brandon Weeden earned National Player of the Week by Maxey College for his outstanding performance against the Aggies. The OSU offense was ranked sixth among the nations best, while the defensive secondary had the fourth best performance of the weekend. Cowboy head coach Mike Gundy was named the National Coach of the Week.

“The way our players handled that situation in the second half was beautiful,” said Gundy. “To win the game makes it that much more special. The way our players fought back as a group shows a lot about their character and who they are.”

Weeden nabs the award after completing 47-of-60 passes for 438-yards and two touchdowns. He orchestrated a comeback for the Cowboys that overcame a 20-3 halftime deficit. Weeden set school records for his 47 completions and 60 attempts. It was the first time in school history that three receivers had at least 10 catches in a game. Senior WR Josh Cooper had 11 catches for 123-yards and WR Justin Blackmon has 11 grabs for 121-yards and a TD. WR Hubert Anyiam had 92-yards receiving on 10 catches.

The Cowboy Defense was impressive in the second half. The secondary was extremely active and aggressive against the Aggies. Corner Justin Gilbert recorded nine tackles, including six solo. He also had an interception for the second consecutive week. Corner Broderick Brown had eight tackles with an INT, while senior safety Markelle Martin had six tackles. Daytawion Lowe and Deion Imade both played well in the victory.

Gundy earns the award after leading his team back from a large first half deficit. The Cowboys knocked off the eighth-ranked Texas A&M Aggies in Kyle Field in front of the fourth largest crowd in school history. OSU took advantage of the TAMU turnovers and penalties to reel off 27 straight points. “We really played well in all three phases of the game in the second half,” said Coach Mike Gundy in the locker room. “But, coming back and winning this game like we did today was really something “Special” for you to remember for the rest of your life. We did something that not many teams in the country could do. The type of character that we have on this team is Special. There will be times in all of your lives that you will remember us fighting-back and winning this game.

ESPN's "Depth Chart" to Showcase OSU on Oct. 12

ESPN has produced a four-episode series called “Depth Chart” this fall, and Oklahoma State is one of four schools featured on the new show. The Cowboy edition will air on Oct. 12 on ESPN at 6 p.m. The "Depth Chart" crew spent five weeks in Stillwater filming the program and focusing on the QBs.

The series, produced as part of the network’s Year of the Quarterback initiative, will be comprised of hour-long episodes chronicling the lives of young people who play the position.

    According to ESPN -
“Depth Chart is a perfect fit for our YQB initiative, which explores the complexities of being a quarterback both on and off the field. This position is so closely scrutinized that we created this series to draw back the curtain and really show fans what it takes to play quarterback in one of America’s top college football programs.”

In addition to the Oklahoma State, the series will also feature Auburn, Arkansas and Wisconsin. It is set to begin airing on ESPN at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, and will continue to air Wednesdays in October.

Throughout the day the core values of teamwork, dedication, loyalty, leadership, commitment, respect and much more were discussed.

Dan Bailey Making A Name For Himself In Dallas

Dan Bailey Highlights from Washington game

NFL Rookie of the Week: Vote for Dan!

PEPSI ROOKIE OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
Dan Bailey, Dallas CowboysBailey connected on all six of his field-goal attempts, including a 40-yarder with 1:57 left in the game that clinched an 18-16 win over the Washington Redskins.

    Dan Bailey's Kickoffs Pass Test

“I don’t know if I’ve ever been prouder of a kicker,” Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. “We found out that Buehler wasn’t going to be able to kick kickoffs, and he handled that with a lot of poise. He did an outstanding job not to have been thinking of kickoffs. We really thought Buehler was going to go up until game time, so you’ve got to give [Bailey] an A-plus, not only on field goals but kickoffs.”

OSU Has Outstanding Strength & Conditioning Staff

A lot of positives have been said about Rob Glass and his strength and conditioning staff but it was ever present Saturday in the Cowboys victory at Texas A&M.  Coach Glass is in his seventh year at Oklahoma State.  An Alumni of OSU, Glass is one of the most recognized and preeminent strength and conditioning experts in college athletics.

    Boone Pickens Stadium

    Boone Pickens Stadium

Boone Pickens Stadium is a state-of-the-art facility that not only provides Oklahoma State football with a unique game-day environment and a roaring home-field advantage, but also with unrivaled facilities for daily operations located in incredibly convenient proximities.

Boone Pickens Stadium officially opened a new south side in 2004, a new north side in 2006 and in 2009 put the wraps on the west end zone project. And while the new digs put OSU on the cutting edge of collegiate facilities, the Cowboys still enjoy the home-field advantage that suffocates opponents with the tightest sidelines in all of football.

The result is that every fan in attendance is close to the action and very much a part of the OSU gameday experience in the coziest 60,000-seat stadium in America.

    ESPN - College Football Traditions

    Storied Tradition

    The Corral

Oklahoma State's Cowboys are known for riding horses, but OSU's pregame tradition keeps with that theme while switching up the role.

The Cowboys make a grand entrance every game day when the team gathers in the tunnel and the door of the corral is shut. The smoke gets going, fills the tunnel until the ranch hands swing open the corral door, and the fans go nuts. The players sprint onto the field when the corral opens and lets the Cowboys out, and you know it's on.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – These are strange and not particularly happy times in college football, when matchups of top 10 teams are second-billed to the turmoil churning off the field and wins can't merely be wins. They're also cast as comeuppance.

Cowboys Jump Into Top 5 Nationally

Oklahoma State jumped into the top 5 among the national polls this week.   The Cowboys improved to 4-0 Saturday with a 30-29 victory on the road at Texas A&M.   OSU rallied from a 17-point halftime deficit to pull out the win.  Oklahoma State enters a bye week ranked No. 5 in the Associated Press poll and No. 6 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

This is the second time in the Mike Gundy Era that OSU has been ranked No. 5 in the AP poll.

    National Polls

Oklahoma State has been in the top 10 each week of the 2011 season. At no time in its history has Oklahoma State been more visible in the national polls than during the Mike Gundy era.

    • Heading into the bye week will mark OSU’s 14th straight as a member of the Associated Press top 25.

    • Including this week, OSU has been ranked by the AP 36 times in its last 40 games, including 22 games as a member of the top 15.

    • Oklahoma State began the 2009 season No. 9 in the AP balloting for its highest preseason ranking ever. OSU tied that preseason ranking in 2011. The 2009 and 2011 seasons are the only two in OSU history in which the Cowboys have made an appearance in the AP preseason top 10.

    • Under Gundy, OSU is 25-10 as a member of the top 25

    • Under Gundy, OSU has spent 13 weeks (including weeks in which OSU was idle) in the top 10.  Prior to Gundy, OSU had spent just 25 weeks in the top 10 of the AP poll in its history.  The Cowboys hold an all-time record of 21-9 when ranked in the top 10.

    •  Under Mike Gundy, OSU has cracked the Associated Press top 10 in four straight seasons, which had never happened at Oklahoma State.

OSU Set to Participate in Coach to Cure MD Saturday

Throughout College Football this Saturday, coaches will be wearing special patches for the AFCA's Coach to Cure MD program.

Coach To Cure MD is a partnership between the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), a professional organization for over 10,000 college football coaches and staff, and Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD), the largest national charity devoted exclusively to Duchenne muscular dystrophy. In 2008 the AFCA adopted PPMD’s Coach To Cure MD program as one of their charity efforts. One reason the AFCA was drawn to Coach To Cure MD was because of the unique parallels between Duchenne, a disorder which robs young men of precious muscle strength and college football, a game where young men are at the peak of their muscle strength.

THE GOALS OF COACH TO CURE MD ARE SIMPLE

  • Raise national awareness of the disorder
  • Raise money to fund research for a cure

OUR APPROACH TO REACHING THESE GOALS IS ALSO SIMPLE
  • One football Saturday of each season (this year it will be on September 24, 2011) AFCA coaches nationwide agree to promote Coach To Cure MD.
  • By wearing armbands, mentioning Coach To Cure MD during on and off-field interviews, and in some instances doing even more extensive media relations around the date, coaches are rolling up their sleeves and proudly getting involved.
  • Big 12 showdown pits Cowboys against Aggies

The sophomore from Huntsville, Texas gave Oklahoma State its first lead of the game in a 59-33 win at Tulsa with his 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the first quarter. It was the third kickoff return for a score by Gilbert in just 15 college games. He also had a 24-yard interception return in the contest.

It is the second time in Gilbert’s career he has received the award and the first time this season. He was also honored for his returning efforts against Oklahoma in 2010.
